CONTRIBUTOR PHOTO SPECS
Thanks for being interested in taking photos of your Steve Keene album art tribute paintings. This is an art book, so we are trying to keep the quality as high as possible. We need your help in order to finish the book and really appreciate your contribution.
Original Photo / Final Result Examples
Here is an example of how I shot the original Minor Threat SK Album Art Tribute and how it will end up looking like in the book. The goal is to create an original RAW image with a contrasted background (ideally white) that we can easy clip. The lighting is fairly even across the whole flat wood painting.
Basic Photo / Lighting / Delivery Instructions
If you are interested in having your paintings and photos considered for the #SKartBook, here are some technical suggestions:
1) File Type: RAW
- Use pro-sumer/professional cameras from Canon, Nikon, Fuji, Sony that shoot RAW images (not iPhone). This is an art book so we need high quality images that can be printed for something that you would see in MOMA.
2) File size: 25MB or above ; make sure the painting is squared up as best as possible; fill the frame as you can with an even border of 10% so as to not clip any of the image.
3) Our example above is what we hope to be able to create from your RAW / Tif / PSD files submission (RAW preferred).
4) Lighting: Well and consistently lit across the entire painting. Natural light is ok, but with lighting on a white background is preferable (see example)
4) You can also bring your piece to a product photography service near you (or I can potentially help you find such a service).
5) Once you have the file(s) use wetransfer.com in order to send it to me.
